Liam J. O'Connor

Liam O’Connor is a Shareholder and Commercial Litigation Attorney in Hopkins & Carley’s San Jose Office. He is a member of the Firm’s Financial Institutions and Creditors’ Rights practice group. Liam's experience includes complex litigation on behalf of financial institutions, individuals, real estate agents and brokers, and various commercial entities.

His practice focuses on creditor-side litigation; loan workouts; forbearance/loan modification agreements; loan sale agreements; real property and mixed collateral foreclosures; Commercial Code Article 9 enforcement; real estate litigation, pre-judgment enforcement remedies such as writs of attachment and appointment of receiver; and creditor-side bankruptcy. He has also developed extensive experience enforcing multi-million dollar judgments against individuals, corporations, and limited liability companies.

  • Represented global commercial lender in successful negotiation of full repayment after borrower’s default under term loan and line of credit, with recovery totaling in excess of $5,000,000, including principal, interest, late fees, and attorneys’ fees.
  • Obtained a $2 million judgment for client, including recovery of all attorneys’ fees and costs, after a two-week bench trial in a case involving financial elder abuse and a fraudulent grant deed of elder party’s real property to defendants.
  • Obtained a $5.8 million judgment for a client and despite numerous attempts to conceal and fraudulently transfer the judgment debtor’s assets, recovered nearly entire amount in satisfaction of judgment.
  • Won a $14.8 million judgment for client, including $10 million in punitive damages, after a two-week bench trial in a fraudulent transfer and malicious prosecution case.
