Hopkins & Carley's Monique Jewett-Brewster Assumes New Chair and Fellowship Roles at ABA Business Law Section Hybrid Spring Meeting

San Jose, Calif., May 1, 2023 – Hopkins & Carley is pleased to announce that Shareholder Monique Jewett-Brewster, who chairs the firm’s Financial Institutions & Creditors Rights Practice Group, stepped into two new leadership roles at the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section’s Hybrid Spring Meeting, which took place April 27-29 in Seattle. Jewett-Brewster was elevated to a three-year role as chair of the ABA Commercial Finance Committee’s Loan Workouts Subcommittee on April 28 and inducted to the highly selective American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers (ACCFL) on April 29. In addition to these recognitions, Jewett-Brewster served as a panelist at the event.

Jewett-Brewster previously served as vice-chair of the Loan Workouts Subcommittee, whose members focus on issues relevant to lawyers representing financial institutions in single and multiple lender loan transactions in workout, restructuring, and remedy enforcement contexts. The Subcommittee considers current legal issues and trends of importance to lenders in loan restructuring, workout, enforcement, and insolvency proceedings.

Additionally, Jewett-Brewster was one of only 14 attorneys in the United States, Canada and Mexico to be selected for and inducted into the ACCFL’s 2023 class of fellows. The ACCFL is a professional organization dedicated to improving and enhancing the practice of commercial finance law and the ethics of the profession. The ACCFL’s mission is to bring together into an association those highly qualified members of the legal profession who, by reason of their character, skill, and ability, will contribute to its goals, accomplishments, and good fellowship. Fellows are practicing lawyers, jurists and academics licensed to practice law who have maintained excellent character, achieved preeminence in the field, and made substantial and sustained contributions to the promotion of learning and scholarship in commercial finance law through teaching, lecturing, published writings or continuing legal education.

“It is truly my honor to serve the profession in these capacities and alongside such esteemed colleagues,” Jewett-Brewster said. “I look forward to upholding and furthering the high-caliber commitments and contributions for both groups as these new roles commence.”

Jewett-Brewster has more than 20 years of experience advising creditor clients in every aspect of insolvency law, including in the workout, restructuring and enforcement of commercial loans and in business bankruptcy cases nationwide. Her clients include financial institutions, private money lenders, equipment leasing companies, asset purchasers, commercial landlords and tenants, receivers and trustees, credit unions and judgment creditors.
